Describe the actual problem
Do you want to discuss hydration, an ongoing symptom, or a specific diagnosis already being managed? Those are different starting points. Tell the clinician what you have tried and what remains unresolved. Avoid assuming that an infusion is the right next step because the appointment is offered on a wellness menu. A clinical discussion may point toward another type of care.
Ask what each route changes
Ask the clinician to explain the purpose, expected limitations, and risks of the proposed route compared with oral options or no treatment. Request a clear explanation of why an invasive option is being considered. If the rationale is a general claim such as “better wellness,” ask what measurable problem or goal it is intended to address for you.
Include practical burden in the decision
Consider time, cost, repeated appointments, and what follow-up would involve. Ask whether the proposed plan depends on returning regularly and how the need for another visit would be decided. Do not use this page to manage dehydration or illness yourself. Severe or urgent symptoms require appropriate medical attention; a general wellness pathway is not a substitute for that care.
Make the conversation yours
Questions to take with you.
- Why consider an IV route in my situation?
- Could a simpler option meet the same goal?
- How would we decide whether another visit is needed?
