Infusion consent and aftercare: questions before the visit

Consent should be understandable before treatment begins. Ask how the team will explain the proposal, respond to concerns during a visit, and provide instructions afterward.

Check what the consent discussion covers

Before signing, ask the assessing clinician to explain the proposed infusion, alternatives, and relevant risks. If the written information differs from what you expected, stop to clarify it. You can request time to read or ask another question. Consent should reflect the proposal you understand, rather than simply completing paperwork.

Ask for a usable aftercare record

Request written instructions that identify the treatment, any individual directions, and the responsible care contact. Ask where to find those details later if a paper copy is misplaced. Keep them separate from general promotional material so you can find the actual clinical instructions when needed.

Make the contact plan explicit

Confirm the route for routine questions, concerns outside normal hours, and situations requiring urgent medical attention. Ask what information the team will need if you call. A wellness website or ordinary email may not be monitored for clinical concerns; follow the treating clinician’s directions and seek appropriate immediate care for urgent symptoms.

Make the conversation yours

Questions to take with you.
