Describe events without guessing the cause
Note what you experienced, when it began, and how it affected your usual activities. Keep the medication label and current instructions available. Explain any other changes around the same time, including new medicines or supplements. The purpose is to give the clinician useful context rather than to diagnose a reaction yourself.
Use the care pathway you were given
Find the practice’s instructions for routine questions, time-sensitive concerns, and emergencies before you need them. Ask who reviews messages and what to do outside ordinary hours. Do not rely on a website article or an unmonitored form to triage a symptom. Severe or urgent symptoms require prompt appropriate medical attention.
Confirm the plan after the conversation
Ask for clear instructions about what happens next and when the concern will be reassessed. If prescription instructions change, confirm the written directions with the prescribing team and pharmacy. Avoid using advice intended for someone else or adjusting a dose from online examples. A useful follow-up summary tells you who to contact if the situation changes.
Make the conversation yours
Questions to take with you.
- Which contact route should I use for this concern?
- What information would help you assess it?
- When and how should we check back?
