Look for a clear chain of reasoning
Ask how your concern led to the proposed evaluation and how that evaluation led to any recommendation. A consultation should connect those steps rather than move directly from a goal such as recovery to a preselected package. Write down where the explanation is unclear and ask the clinician to fill in the gap.
Keep separate questions separate
Evidence, regulatory status, pharmacy identity, individual suitability, and cost are different topics. A reassuring answer to one does not answer the rest. Ask for the product name and the proposed use before discussing claims. Request sources and enough time to review them if uncertainty is central to the choice.
Check the relationship after the sale
Clarify who will provide care, what happens if treatment is not appropriate, and how questions or concerns are managed later. A clinician should be able to discuss alternatives, including no treatment. This guide does not certify a clinic or endorse a product; it helps you recognize the information a decision requires.
Make the conversation yours
Questions to take with you.
- Can I explain the purpose and proposal in my own words?
- Which questions are still unanswered?
- What happens if I decide against treatment?
